It is incumbent upon every father to fulfill the Biblical precept to circumcise his son on the eighth day, or to designate a qualified representative (Mohel) to do so on his behalf. This commandment is so important that it is carried out if the eight day would fall out on Shabbat or even Yom Kippur.
